Solar Fern Racing will be displaying a solar powered racing car.

Solar Fern Racing is a team of committed Christchurch engineers who designed, tested and built the solar powered racing car, the Solar Fern. The Solar Fern was New Zealand’s only solar powered car to enter the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge.

The World Solar challenge is a gruelling 3000km solar powered car race from Darwin to Adelaide, across the Australian outback. Competing against multi-million dollar international teams, Solar Fern Racing demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness and class winning potential. With a Kiwi can-do attitude, Solar Fern Racing achieved 12th in their class while gaining valuable experience and international interest.

Solar Fern Racing are currently preparing for the 2009 World Solar Challenge, where they intend to showcase new cutting edge solar technology, and upgrade the well proven Solar Fern to achieve true class winning performance.

Visit our stall at the Christchurch World Environment Day, learn more about the Solar Fern and find out how you can support the team in their campaign to be number one!

Kiwi HPV

Kiwi HPV

www.kiwihpv.org.nz

Kiwi HPV will be displaying velomobiles, a recumbent bicycle and an antique bicycle.

Kiwi HPV is a support group for those Kiwis afflicted with an interest in human powered vehicles (or HPVs for short). Our group exists to foster the awareness and use of all HPVs within New Zealand. Although we are mainly based in Christchurch, our membership is scattered throughout the country, from Southland up to Northland.

HPVs come in many different forms; conventional bicycles, of course, however, there are many other types to be had, such as recumbents, freight-carrying workbikes, etc. Some of the Kiwi HPV membership have recently been developing fully-enclosed recumbent tricycles, called velomobiles, which function as practical all-weather commuting vehicles.

Walker Electric Truck

Orion Group

www.oriongroup.co.nz

Orion will be displaying an early 1900s Electric Truck.

Orion owns and operates the electricity network in central Canterbury between the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers. Our shareholders are Christchurch City Council (89%) and Selwyn District Council (11%).

A reliable and safe supply of electricity is of critical importance to the community we serve. Our priority is the continued, cost-effective improvement of our network performance. To achieve this we utilise innovative technology that improves the performance of our network, lowers customer costs and improves the environment.

One such technology that Orion is keeping a watchful eye on is the electric vehicle. We operated an electric vehicle fleet at the start of the last century and whilst these vehicles, one of which will be displayed at the Expo, eventually passed into history, it is increasingly likely that electric vehicles will be the future mode of road transportation for our community. Our display examines the potential for electric vehicles in Christchurch.

Creative Junk – Recycled Art Exhibit

What we do here at Creative Junk. We collect materials as in off cuts etc from factories, that would normally be going to the land fill, and bring it back to our premises. We have families, business and anyone else who like to collect stuff and bring it into us as well. Once it is here it is sorted, then anyone can come in to purchase resources to put into creative play. Schools, Preschools, Kindergartens, Families, After care, Polytech, Youth groups, Scouting Canterbury, Community groups, and even peolpe making costumes for the wearable art show, are only some of the people who use us.

We like to provide ideas and inspiration, using recyclable resources for play and fun in the home, at a low cost, better than plastic fantastic toys.

On the day of the 5th June, we will have a work shop for anyone to create from our resources which I will bring.
